Masterclass in Inclusive Practices 1: How to support learners with specific learning disorders in the classroom
In the presentation, we will explore evidence-based research and practices in supporting learners with diverse needs. The first part of the session will be an introduction to Specific Learning Disorders that you may see in a mainstream school setting such as: ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia and dysgraphia. We will then delve into how best to support learners in the mainstream school environment according to their cognitive profiles. This will be done practically, with group work and discussions on how to use such practices in various subject areas and classroom settings.

Masterclass in Inclusive Practices 2: Supporting the child on the autism spectrum in the school environment
Learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have a different, not defective, way of thinking. This workshop will introduce ASD and briefly look at the changes in the diagnostic criteria and levels classification. The cognitive, emotional and social profile of learners with ASD will be discussed. We will also explore how girls and boys on the spectrum present differently to one another and how schools, health professionals, and parents are able to collaboratively support ASD learners.

Masterclass in Inclusive Practices 3: Regulate to Educate
Regulate to Educate is a fundamental principle in fostering a structured and effective sensory learning classroom and school environment. We are all sensory beings and as such benefit from sensory-motor activities to support our level of alertness. By understanding what activities work to calm or alert children, educators and therapists can promote an optimal learning space where children can be more available to participate, learn and master skills.

Masterclass in Inclusive Practices 4: How, When and Where to refer a child for therapies and accommodations
The focus of this workshop will be how, when and where to refer a child who may be presenting with learning difficulties. Discussion will be on which therapy would be most suited for presenting difficulties. Accommodations for such learners will be also explored through case studies and discussions. The workshop is aimed at educators, health professionals and parents who may be wondering which route of support is best suited to the child’s needs. You are welcome to send your questions prior to the workshop for the presenters to consider.
