Autism Spectrum Disorder is a lifelong neuro-developmental condition that affects how a person communicates with, relates to other people and engages with the world around them.
People with ASD may at times find neurotypical behaviour confusing and baffling. People with ASD may present with a ‘signature’ language profile. They may experience deficits in nonverbal communicative behaviours used for social interaction and can present with deficits in developing, maintaining, and understanding relationships.
While there are many struggles, there are some gifts. ASD presents the individual with a specific way of being in the world. It is essential for all to gain insight into this pattern of thinking and in turn deepen our understanding and level of meaningful engagement.
