Your child is diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). They are in a supportive educational environment, receiving appropriate interventions from a professional team and on the correct medication. Despite this, academic progress is not as expected.
At first glance, the barriers that children with ADHD encounter – such as inattention, hyperactivity, lack of focus and distractibility – may seem obvious. However, the secondary barriers – often not as overt – may have a profound effect on the child’s academic performance. In this talk, Professor André Venter, highlights the co-occurring learning difficulties associated with ADHD. He discusses which children may be at risk, as well as explores a few interventions that may be useful to the parent or those working with the child at school.
