This package offers you access to all 3 Masterclass sessions;
Masterclass Series | Session 1: The Reading Rope
Join us to explore Scarborough’s Reading Rope, a foundational framework within the Science of Reading that has reshaped understanding of how skilled reading develops and why learners experience difficulty. This workshop will provide a deep, research informed exploration of the intertwined strands of word recognition and language comprehension and their implications for assessment, instruction and intervention. Participants will gain clarity on how the Reading Rope translates into practical classroom and remedial practice, particularly for learners with dyslexia and other literacy challenges.
This workshop is designed for educators, therapists, learning support professionals and school leaders committed to advancing evidence aligned literacy outcomes and strengthening professional understanding of reading development.
Dates & Times: Wednesday 15 July 2026 ; 13h30 – 16h00 (Registration @ 13h00)
Masterclass Series | Session 2: The Writing Rope
Writing is perhaps the most rigorous task we ask of the human brain, requiring the simultaneous coordination of multiple cognitive processes. Drawing on Joan Sedita’s Writing Rope framework, this workshop deconstructs the complexity of written expression into five essential threads, from the mechanics of spelling to the nuances of audience awareness. These components must be explicitly taught and integrated to move learners toward fluent, authentic authorship. Join us to discover evidence-based strategies for strengthening the ‘weave’ of your writing instruction.
Dates & Times: Wednesday 22 July 2026 ; 13h30 – 16h00 (Registration @ 13h00) | Audience: Educators and Healthcare professionals
Masterclass Series | Session 3: The Maths Rope
Mathematical proficiency isn’t just about memorising times tables or procedures; it’s a complex weave of cognitive threads. Join us as we explore the Maths Rope framework, relevant to all primary school educators and therapists. We will dive into how spatial reasoning, logical decomposition, semantics and procedural fluency intertwine to develop confident mathematicians in every classroom. We will discuss practical strategies to ensure no “strand” is left behind in the classroom, moving students from rote learning to deep, interconnected understanding.
Dates & Times: Wednesday 29 July 2026 ; 13h30 – 16h00 (Registration @ 13h00) | Audience: Primary school teachers and therapists
All Masterclass sessions are hosted at Bellavista School, 35 Wingfield Ave, Birdhaven, JHB
