In this presentation Alicia will explore aggression in children and teenagers. She will discuss what signs to look out for and why these is one of the most common reasons for referral to psychiatric care in children. She will look into the types of aggression and commonly associated diagnoses. She will further explore the guiding principles, psychological interventions and provide recommendations for psychosocial interventions and psychotherapy for aggression.

Presenter: Alicia Porter

As the Clinical Head of the Child Psychiatry Unit at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Alicia leads a team of dedicated professionals who provide quality mental health care to children and adolescents in need.

She is a Fellow of the College of Psychiatrists of South Africa (FC(PSYCH)SA) and has over 10 years of experience as a psychiatrist, specialising in child and adolescent psychiatry, women’s mental health and mental health advocacy. 

Alicia is also the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the South African Society of Psychiatrists, where she contributes to the advancement of the profession and advocates for the rights and dignity of people with mental health disorders.

In addition, she runs a part time private practice where she offers individualised and holistic treatment to patients with various mental health challenges. Alicia is passionate about improving the mental health and well-being of children and families, and continuously seeks to expand her knowledge and skills in this dynamic and rewarding field.
