Overcoming Compassion Fatigue
Welcome to this course on Compassion Fatigue. This course is divided into 4 sessions:
Session 1: Introduction to Compassion Fatigue
Session 2: A Case Study and a Fatigue Tool
Session 3: Ethical Responsibility and the System
Session 4: Self Care Strategies
At the end of the course, you will be required to answer multiple-choice questions in order to receive your points.
As professionals who are trained to care for others, we often overlook the need for personal self-care.
This workshop will focus on building awareness of Compassion Fatigue among educators and health professionals as well as the ethical responsibility of professionals to make self-care a priority in order to sustain their work.
Symptoms to look out for will be highlighted and a discussion of practical changes to implement to prevent compassion fatigue and build resilience will be discussed.

Suzanne Mackay studied her honours in Psychology and completed her Masters in Practical Theology specialising in Narrative Therapy in 2011. Over the past 14 years, she has worked as a counsellor and trainer, supporting and empowering those in the caring professions.
Recently her focus has been primarily her two beautiful daughters, although she remains passionate about increasing the skills and resilience of those who care for others, as part of their day to day work.
