Bellavista School is an independent preparatory school in Johannesburg for children with learning potential who are experiencing specific or generalised learning difficulties that prevent them from achieving success in a mainstream school environment. Bellavista School is a small independent school, with a big vision, nestled in Birdhaven, Johannesburg. Our co-educational environment caters for children from Grade R to 7. Our stated mission is to deliver excellence in education to children who experience barriers to learning and to equip them with life skills enabling them to embrace their future.


The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the design and execution of the therapy support and intervention programme pertaining to his or her area of expertise and to the learners assigned to the caseload each year. The therapist is part of a multidisciplinary team who undertakes to jointly monitor and facilitate the learners’ personal and scholastic progress in the context of that team. The therapist organises and evaluates the intervention process, attends and contributes to case conferences, manages therapy and assessment documentation, assesses, prepares reports, encourages the development and use of cognitive strategies by the learners, disciplines the learners and manages the emotional wellbeing of the children in his/her care. The therapist undertakes to engage the parents in a collaborative manner. The therapist participates in the full life of the school, assuming additional responsibilities as determined by the needs of the school

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

In addition to a four year professional qualification, training and experience in the practice of Sensory Integration is desirable. Five years’ experience in Occupational Therapy practice with, ideally, at least one year of this experience in a school based setting.
